AN UNLIKELY PARTNERSHIP IN BOSTON

At first glance, the idea of a business school partnering with a medical foundation seems a bit unusual.

Dr. Mack Cheney certainly felt so, at least initially, but he trusted Carmella Kletjian's vision of partnering with The Lewis Institute for Social Innovation at Babson College. The Foundation funded the Schlesinger Fund for Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship and endowed a Distinguished Professor in Global Surgery to support a field critically in need of new, sustainable approaches.  In 2019, the Foundation and Babson announced the establishment of the Kerry Murphy Healey Center for Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship at Babson's Centennial Celebration.

An astonishing 5 billion people do not have access to adequate and affordable surgical care. Babson and the Kletjian Foundation aim to change that.

To activate entrepreneurial leaders and thinkers in global health.

The Schlesinger Fund for Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship is housed within the Lewis Institute for Social Innovation at Babson. In 2019, the Kletjian Foundation announced a new partnership with Babson College to establish the Kerry Murphy Healey Center for Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship.

The fund has provided and the Center will continue to facilitate opportunities for Babson faculty and students to apply Entrepreneurial Thought and Action (ETA) to global healthcare challenges. Through events, student programs, thought leadership, and strategic partnerships with global health-care leaders, Babson is exploring the state of global health through the lens of entrepreneurship and business organization principles. In addition, the Kletjian Foundation has endowed a Distinguished Professor in Global Surgery to support a field critically in need of new, sustainable approaches.
