Our goal is to
BUILD NETWORKS AND SUPPORT LEADERS
who promote global health equity.
We both implement and fund global surgery projects across the globe. In order to achieve our goal of improving health equity, we rely on our collaborative network of surgeons, global health entrepreneurs, and ambassadors.
We design, implement, monitor, and refine surgical training trips during which leading surgeons from across the globe travel to developing countries to build the capacity of local surgeons. The trainers utilize a mixed-methods approach, utilizing lectures, hands-on workshops, and shoulder-to-shoulder surgical operations to ensure comprehensive learning.
Local surgeons not only gain skills and knowledge to conduct operations, but they also receive ongoing mentorship with the international surgeons through innovative telemedicine platforms.
"We're grateful for this training, we now can help so many people in our country."
We facilitate collaboration between the likely and unlikely players in Global Surgery to explore areas of health system strengthening and innovation.
Through professorships of Global Surgery, we have identified individuals who have demonstrated a major commitment to global surgery. We support them to amplify their work, whether it be in policy, process and systems development, or practical skills transfer and surgical education.
We also funded a pilot program, which created the Schlesinger Fund for Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship. This fund is housed within the Lewis Institute for Social Innovation at Babson College. It provides opportunities for Babson faculty and students to apply Entrepreneurial Thought and Action® to global health challenges.
"At first glance, the idea of a business school partnering with a medical foundation seems a bit unusual..."
